I'm Lydia Spencer, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Indianapolis. I've been a therapist for five years and was a case manager for four years before that. I hold a strong belief in the inner strength of humans to survive through hardship and come through on the other side. However, hardship can change us and how we feel within ourselves. Therapy can be tool to support you in creating a safe, comfortable, and stable home within yourself.
I specialize in working with the LGBTQ+ community, individuals navigating trauma, and those processing grief and loss. My approach is trauma-informed, identity-affirming, and deeply collaborative. I show up as human and find that my clients feel our interactions are more genuine and personable as a result. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all therapy, I believe in meeting you where you are and building a path forward together. You are the expert on your own life and experiences!
Before opening my private practice, I worked as a case manager in supporting foster parents in providing a safe and stable home to children within foster care. I then worked with youth and adults who were struggling with substance use, domestic violence, and trauma in an outpatient mental health center. I transitioned to working as a therapist in a group practice, along with providing therapy services to young adults experiencing homelessness. These experiences taught me that healing happens in safe relationship, not in isolation.
When I'm not in session, you'll find me spending time with my wife and daughter, exploring Indianapolis's best thrift spots, playing with my pets, or working on a home project while listening to an audiobook. My clients often express they value my dependability, support, curiosity, humor, honesty, ability to be direct, and encouragement. I believe that therapists are humans first, and I bring that humanity into every session.
Education & Credentials
I practice from an integrative framework, drawing on somatic approaches, cognitive processing, and mindfulness-based techniques. But more than any single modality, I believe in the collaborative power of a genuine therapeutic relationship.
My work is grounded in these core values:
You are welcome here exactly as you are. No part of you is too much.
Safety comes first. We move at your pace, honoring your nervous system's needs.
Your identity is not a problem to solve. It is a truth to celebrate.
You are the expert on your own life. I bring the tools; you bring the wisdom.
